South Sound Together loves sharing the good news about our region, a great place to live and a good place to do business. And we enjoy working toward a better and brighter future for the place we call home.

We just completed our third year of working together — promoting the region, funding things no one else is doing, supporting job creation and economic development, and looking for ways to leverage our gifts to make a bigger impact.

Here’s what we did in 2017:

For the community: We helped local nonprofits help our community through another year of micro-grants, funding creative people doing good through the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s Spark Grants, helping entrepreneurs build their skills through Spaceworks programs and supporting the Children’s Museum of Tacoma in working toward a child-centered community.

For the economy: We funded surveys and focus groups that looked at the impact of arts, culture, science and heritage programs. We worked with the University of Washington Tacoma to launch the South Sound Alliance, which brings together government leadership to collaborate in finding creative ways to develop our region’s economy and community. And we supported a pilot project to add a bus route from the downtown core along Ruston Way to Point Defiance Park.

For the South Sound’s image: We launched the South Sound Proud campaign, which promotes our region’s unique character and builds our sense of place. And we continue to work toward creating signs along I-5 to welcome people to the South Sound.

We’re excited to continue this work and take on new challenges in 2018. What would you like to see us do? Email us at SouthSoundProud@gmail.com.
