Summer’s here, and the time is right for dancing in the streets — and for climbing and kayaking and dining al fresco and soaking up the sun and so much more. We at South Sound Together love to live like the mountain is out, and we know you do, too.

We celebrate that spirit with our South Sound Proud campaign, and this summer, we’re helping to make it easier for you to have all that fun and to explore your community. We contributed to Pierce Transit’s new Downtown to Defiance trolley, a festively decorated bus that connects visitors and locals with destinations from downtown Tacoma to scenic destinations along Ruston Way and to Point Defiance Park.

Point Defiance Park boasts the Northwest’s only combined zoo and aquarium, plus old-growth forest, saltwater beaches and spectacular views. In the City of Ruston, you can soak up historic charm and shop at the North Pearl Farmers Market, while Point Ruston features dining, entertainment and recreation including bike and surrey rentals. And Ruston Way’s parks and two miles of waterfront attract walkers, joggers, scuba divers, fisher, parasailers and picnickers.

A trolley ride costs just $1 — and only 50 cents for seniors and people with disabilities. Or you can ride all day for $5 for adults or $2.50 for youth, seniors and those with disabilities. Your bike and your well-behaved dog (on a leash, of course) are both welcome aboard. While on board, you’ll even hear the voice of Mayor Marilyn Strickland telling you about the areas you’re riding through and what they have to offer.

Take the trolley.
