Among the small grants we’ve funded this year, South Sound Together gave $10,000 to the Children’s Museum of Tacoma to fund small grants to individuals and groups working to encourage play and learning in South Sound. One of the recipients was small in an unexpected way: Katherine Grayum, an 8-year-old gardener, was awarded $500 to share her love of community gardens with other kids. She’ll use the funds to create two new plots so neighbor kids can garden, too. The kids will cooperate in deciding what to grow and plan to donate any extra veggies to the local food bank.
