in 2015, The News Tribune convened a group of business, non-profit and government leaders to showcase South Puget Sound as a good place for business and a great place to live. Each year, business leaders and community partners rallied to get involved and support the initiative and the community.

In 2017, we unveiled the South Sound Proud, Live Like the Mountain Is Out campaign. From murals and merchandise to social media mentions, the response was overwhelmingly positive.

To further celebrate the region and the people who live here — and promote a sense of connectedness throughout the region — we produced a series of anthemic videos in 2018. This year, we released fresh logos, graphics and frames that are free to download from SouthSoundProud.org. Now, everyone can customize their photos and display what makes them proud to live, work and play in the South Sound.

Every year, South Sound Together also funds projects that strengthen our community, promote our region, support job growth and build a more robust economy. Some examples include small grants through places like the Children’s Museum of Tacoma and Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, special events like Sue’s Tech Kitchen and community collaborations such as the South Sound Alliance. As we celebrate our fifth year, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve invested nearly $900,000 in our local community. Better yet, when we include matching funds, the contribution reaches nearly $2 million!

Looking forward, we’re excited to continue contributing to the growth and sustainability of the South Sound as well as championing the spirit of Live Like the Mountain Is Out.
